Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

The MCSC regulates both professional and amateur Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) in the Province of Manitoba. Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) stands out as a unique part of the MCSC responsibilities.

BJJ is the only combat sport that is permitted to hold tournament style events. BJJ focuses mainly on ground-based grappling style techniques intended to gain control of and dominate an opponent. Athletes use a variety of techniques including joint locks, chokes, compression holds and other body manipulations to either submit an opponent or to win by points.

Amateur athletes under the age of (18) are allowed to participate in Manitoba. While the MCSC has the responsibility for regulatory oversight for BJJ it works closely with the various BJJ clubs and event organizers to

ensure the BJJ community has the flexibility to hold a variety of events.
